Abstract:Depression is a common psychosomatic disease characterized by obvious and persistent low mood. Western medicine is still not very clear about its pathogenesis, which is mainly believed to be related to neurobiochemical and neuroendocrine abnormalities. In Chinese medicine, it belongs to emotional disease, specifically, the category of “depression syndrome”. The theory of viscera- state doctrine on liver is the main component of the theory of visceral manifestation. Its research content includes the characteristics of physiological function of liver, common pathological changes and the relationship between liver and other four fu-organs. Based on the relevant records in Huangdi Neijing,this paper discusses the content of the theory of visceral manifestation in liver,and holds that the onset of depression is closely related to the failure of free flow of liver qi and the disharmony of qi and blood. In clinical treatment of it,the prescription and point selected according to syndrome differentiation based on soothing the liver and regulating qi can obtain good effect.
