Abstract： Objective： To observe the effect of Buzhong Shengqing Xieyinhuo compound prescription combined with insulin on islet β-cell function and glucose and lipid metabolism in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus. Methods：A total of 100 cases of patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus were randomly divided into the treatment group and the control group，50 cases in each group. The treatment group was given Buzhong Shengqing Xieyinhuo compound prescription combined with premixed insulin，and the control group was given placebo combined with premixed insulin. Before and after treatment，the changes in islet function including insulin， C- peptide， Insulin Acuity Index(IAI)， the index of Homeostatic Model Assessment of Insulin Resistance(HOMA- IR)， as well as the index of Homeostatic Model Assessment for β cell function (HOMA-β)，the changes in the levels of glucose metabolism including blood glucose level and glycosylated hemoglobin A1c (HbA1c)， the changes in the indexes of lipid metabolism including triglyceride(TG) and low density lipoprotein- cholesterol (LDL-C)，as well as the incidence of hypoglycemia were compared between the two groups. Results：After treatment，in the treatment group， the levels of fasting glucose(FPG) and 2- hour postprandial blood glucose(PPG) were significantly lower， the standard- reaching rates of FPG and PPG were significantly higher， and the proportion of hypoglycemia was lower，differences being significant(P＜0.05). After treatment，the levels of fasting insulin(FINS)，IAI and HOMA- β in the treatment group were higher than those in the control group(P＜0.05)，and there was no significant difference being found in the comparison of the index of HOMA-IR between the two groups(P＞0.05). After treatment，in the treatment group，the levels of HbA1c，TG and LDL-C were lower than those in the control group(P＜0.05). After treatment，the Chinese medicine syndrome scores in the two groups were significantly decreased when compared with those before treatment，differences being significant(P＜0.05)，and the decrease of the scores in the treatment group was more significant than that in the control group(P＜0.05). Conclusion： The additional therapy of Buzhong Shengqing Xieyinhuo compound prescription in treating patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus，can conduce the recovery of islet β-cell function，stabilize the levels of blood glucose level，improve the disturbance state of lipid metabolism in body ，as well as reduce the risk of hypoglycemia.
