Abstract： Objective： To observe the clinical effect of modified Shentong Zhuyu tang combined with Chinese herbal fumigation and washing for knee osteoarthritis(KOA). Methods：A total of 102 cases of KOA patients were divided into the control group and the observation group according to the random number table method， 51 cases in each group. The control group was treated with glucosamine sulphate capsules， and the observation group was additionally treated with modified Shentong Zhuyu tang combined with Chinese herbal fumigation and washing based on the treatment of the control group.Both groups were treated for two months. The Western Ontario and Mcmaster Universities Osteoarthritis Index(WOMAC) scores， degree of pain and clinical effect in the two groups were compared. Results： After treatment， each value in WOMAC scores in the two groups was decreased when compared with that before treatment(P＜0.05)， and the decrease in the observation group was more significant than that in the control group(P＜0.05). After treatment， the Visual Analogue Scale(VAS) scores in the two groups were decreased when compared with those before treatment(P＜0.05)， and the decrease in the observation group was more significant than that in the control group(P＜0.05). The clinical effect in the observation group was better than that in the control group，the difference being significant(Z=2.332，P＜0.05). Conclusion： Modified Shentong Zhuyu tang combined with Chinese herbal fumigation and washing for KOA can effectively improve the knee joint function and curative effect.
