Abstract: Objective: To observe the clinical effect of balance acupuncture combined with kinetic cupping therapy for scapulohumeral periarthritis. Methods:A total of 68 cases of patients with scapulohumeral periarthritis were randomly divided into the control group and the observation group according to their visiting sequence, 34 cases in each group. The control group was given routine acupuncture, and the observation group was given balance acupuncture combined with kinetic cupping therapy. Both groups were treated for two courses, five times being one course, and there was a two- day rest between the two courses. The clinical effect in the two groups was evaluated. Before and after treatment, the scores of Short- form McGill pain Questionnaire and Constant- Murley Score were recorded. Results: The total effective rate was 94.12% in the observation group and 73.53% in the control group, the difference being significant(P<0.05). Compared with those before treatment, the scores of pain rating index(PRI),Visual Analogue Scale(VAS) and present pain intensity(PPI) in the two groups after treatment were decreased(P<0.05). After treatment, the scores of PRI,VAS and PPI in the observation group were lower than those in the control group(P<0.05). Compared with those before treatment, the scores of daily functional activities, range of motion, pain and muscle strength as well as the total scores in the two groups after treatment were increased(P<0.05). After treatment, the scores of daily functional activities, range of motion, pain and muscle strength as well as the total score in the observation group were higher than those in the control group(P<0.05). Conclusion: The therapy of balance acupuncture combined with kinetic cupping therapy can effectively relieve the pain of patients with scapulohumeral periarthritis and improve the movable function of shoulder joint, whose curative effect was better than that of routine acupuncture.
