Abstract： Objective： To observe the clinical effect of Chinese herbal fumigation and scraping combined with western medicine for type 2 diabetes of liver- kidney yin deficiency type complicated with xerophthalmia. Methods： A total of 110 cases of patients were randomly divided into the control group and the observation group， 55 cases in each group. Both groups were given insulin or oral administration of hypoglycemic drugs to control blood glucose， and treated with Sodium Hyaluronate Eye Drops；the observation group was additionally treated with Chinese herbal fumigation and scraping therapy. Both groups were treated for four weeks. Before and after treatment，the scores of symptoms，corneal fluorescein staining (FL)， tear break- up time(BUT)， Schirmer I test(SIT)， corneal sensitivity and Ocular Surface Disease Index(OSDI) were evaluated. The clinical effect in the two groups was compared. Results：After treatment，the clinical effect in the observation group was better than that in the control group(P＜0.05). The symptom scores in the two groups were decreased when compared with those before treatment(P＜0.01)，and the score in the observation group was lower than that in the control group(P＜0.01). The scores of FL，BUT，SIT and corneal sensitivity in the two groups were decreased when compared with those before treatment(P＜0.01)，and the scores in the observation group were all lower than those in the control group(P＜ 0.01). The scores of ocular symptoms，visual function and environmental triggers in OSDI，and the total scores of OSDI in the two groups were decreased when compared with those before treatment(P＜0.01)， and the above scores in the observation group were all lower than those in the control group(P＜0.01). Conclusion：Based on the intervention of routine western medicine， Chinese herbal fumigation combined with scraping for diabetes complicated with xerophthalmia can effectively improve subjective symptoms and objective signs，and relieve dry eyes.
