Abstract:Objective:To observe the effect of modified Zhibai Dihuang tang on bone age index in adolescent girls with high bone age and short stature. Methods:A total of 47 cases of adolescent girls with high bone age and short stature, who were of yin deficiency with effulgent fire type, complicated with liver depression or spleen deficiency and phlegmdampness, were observed according to Chinese medicine syndrome differentiation. Based on syndrome differentiation, they were treated with modified Zhibai Dihuang tang for six months. Before and after intervention, the changes in height, body mass, body mass index, bone age index and adult final height predicted by bone age were compared. Results:After the intervention of modified Zhibai Dihuang tang for adolescent girls with high bone age and short stature, the height was lengthened when compared with that before intervention, and the body mass index was decreased, the difference being significant(P<0.05). Bone age and bone age index were also decreased when compared with that before intervention, the difference being significant(P<0.05). Before intervention, the predicted height was lower than genetic height; after intervention, there was no significant difference being found in the comparison between the predicted height and genetic height(P>0.05). Conclusion: The application of modified Zhibai Dihuang tang for adolescent girls with high bone age and short stature can inhibit bone age growth rate and increase the growth space of height, which is conducive to the improvement of final height.
