Abstract： Objective： To observe the curative effect of thumbtack needle combined with wrist- ankle acupuncture in rapidly alleviating acute renal colic. Methods：Selected 120 cases of patients with acute renal colic attack who were admitted and treated in urology in the second affiliated hospital of Zhejiang University of Chinese Medicine，and divided them into the control group and the observation group randomly， 60 cases in each group. The control group received general nursing methods and collateral pressing and pushing for analgesia， while the observation group additionally received thumbtackneedle and wrist- ankle acupuncture for analgesia. Both groups received medicine for analgesia when physiotherapeutic analgesia failed. Observed the curative effect in the two groups，and recorded the total effective rate of relieving pain，the onset time and the total amount of analgesic medicine in the two groups. Results：The total effective rate in the observation group was higher than that in the control group，difference being significant (P＜0.05). The onset time of relieving pain and the total amount of using analgesic medicine in the observation group were better than those in the control group， difference being significant (P＜0.05). Conclusion：Thumbtack needle combined with wrist-ankle acupuncture can alleviate acute renal colic rapidly.
