Abstract:Congenital myogenic torticollis(CMT) is one of the three major congenital diseases of musculoskeletal system in children, accounting for 5.2% to 12.4% of orthopedic surgery in children. Its main characteristics are the tilting of head and neck to the affected side caused by contracture of the sternocleidomastoid muscle, with or without masses in different sizes on the affected side of the neck. The author screened the literature on Tuina for CMT in Chinese National Knowledge Infiastructure(CNKI) in recent ten years. The manipulations were classified;the sites, time and strength of operation as well as the curative effect were analyzed. It is believed that the core manipulations of Tuina for CMT are mainly deformation and relaxation, including passive traction, rotating and pulling manipulation, pressing and kneading, pushing and kneading, grasping and pinching as well as flicking. The main operating sites are sternocleidomastoid muscle, trapezius muscle and masses. The operation time is relatively short and the strength of manipulation is gentle and moderate. The combination of the two types of manipulations has definite curative effect in treating CMT with good compliance, which is safe,non-invasive,and worthy of clinical promotion and application.
