Abstract： Objective： To observe the clinical effect of Yinhuang Qingfei capsules in adjuvant treatment for severe pneumonia with phlegm-heat obstructing the lung syndrome. Methods ： A total of 80 cases of patients with severe pneumonia with phlegm-heat obstructing the lung syndrome were divided into the treatment group and the control group，40 cases in each group. Both groups were given routine western medicine treatment；the control group was additionally treated with imipenem and cilastatin sodilum for injection by intravenous drip， and the treatment group was additionally given oral administration of Yinhuang Qingfei capsules based on the treatment of the control group. After two- week treatment， the blood gas indexes of arteries， the scores of the Acute Physiology and Chronic Health Evaluation Ⅱ(APACHE Ⅱ) and the Clinical Pulmonary Infection Score(CPIS) as well as the clinical effect were compared between the two groups. Results：After treatment，the levels of partial pressure of carbon dioxide(PaCO2) in the two groups were significantly decreased(P＜0.01)，and the levels of oxygen saturation(SaO2) and partial pressure of oxygen(PaO2) were significantly increased(P＜0.01)； The improvement of PaCO2，SaO2 and PaO2 in the treatment group was more than that in the control group，differences being significant(P＜0.01). After treatment，the scores of APACHE Ⅱ and CPIS in the two groups were significantly decreased(P＜0.01)，and the above two scores in the treatment group were significantly lower than those in the control group(P＜0.01). The total effective rate was 95.0% in the treatment group，significantly higher than that of 77.5% in the control group(P＜0.05).Conclusion：Based on routine rehabilitation measures，the adjuvant treatment of Yinhuang Qingfei capsules for patients with severe pneumonia with phlegm- heat obstructing the lung syndrome can effectively improve their symptoms， signs and clinical effect，and control infection.
