Abstract： Objective： To observe the clinical effect of Chinese herbal medicine inunction combined with infrared irradiation for lumbar muscle strain in senile patients. Methods： A total of 80 cases of senile patients with lumbar muscle strain were selected and divided into the control group and the observation group according to the random number table method，40 cases in each group. The control group was treated with Chinese herbal medicine inunction，and the observation group was treated with Chinese herbal medicine inunction combined with infrared irradiation. The clinical effect，as well as the scores of Visual Analogue Scale(VAS)，Oswestry Diasbility Index(ODI)，tenderness scores，endurance time of psoas and back muscle strength before and after treatment in the two groups were compared. Results： The total effective rate was 95.0% in the observation group，higher than that of 75.0% in the control group(P＜0.05). After treatment，the VAS scores in the two groups were decreased when compared with those before treatment(P＜0.05)，and the decrease in the observation group was more obvious than that in the control group(P＜0.05). After treatment，the ODI and tenderness scores in the two groups were decreased when compared with those before treatment； the endurance time of psoas was prolonged when compared with that before treatment；and back muscle strength was increased when compared with that before treatment， differences being significant(P＜0.05). The ODI and tenderness score in the observation group were lower than those in the control group，the endurance time of psoas was longer than that in the control group，and the back muscle strength was greater than that in the control group， differences being significant(P＜0.05). Conclusion： The therapy of Chinese herbal medicine inunction combined with infrared irradiation for lumbar muscle strain in senile patients can better relieve their pain symptoms，quickly recover the lumbar function，and enhance the endurance of the muscles of waist and back，which has significant clinical effect.
