Abstract：Objective：To observe the effect of massage combined with moxibustion for postoperative pain of lumbar disc herniation after percutaneous endoscopic lumbar discectomy(PELD). Methods： A total of 98 cases of patients with postoperative pain of PELD were randomly divided into the control group and the observation group，49 cases in each group. The control group was given nimesulide sustained release capsules and irradiation on lumbus by special electromagnetic wave emitter(TDP)，and the observation group was treated with massage and moxibustion. Both groups were treated for 14 days. Before and after treatment，the scores of symptoms，signs and low back pain of Japanese Orthopaedic Association(JOA) were evaluated. The clinical effect in the two groups was compared. Results： After treatment， the clinical effect in the observation group was better than that in the control group(P＜0.05). The scores of subjective symptoms，objective signs and limitation of daily activity as well as their total scores in the JOA scale in the two groups were increased when compared with those before treatment(P＜0.05)，and the above scores in the observation group were higher than those in the control group (P＜0.05). The scores of symptoms and signs such as pain in low back and lower extremity，and the total scores in the two groups were decreased when compared with those before treatment(P＜0.01)， and the above scores in the observation group were lower than those in the control group(P＜0.01). Conclusion： The application of massage and moxibustion in treating postoperative pain of lumbar disc herniation can significantly relieve pain，other symptoms and signs，and improve the lumbar function，with good clinical effect.
