Guided by the thought of“treat disease before it arises”and combined with modern research on heart failure，this paper explores the strategies of prevention and treatment for heart failure.The guideline for the diagnosis and management of chronic heart failure in the adult divides the process of heart failure into four stages——A，B，C and D，according to its occurrence and the development.In the authors'opinion，corresponding to the theory of“treat disease before it arises”，in stage A，it is advisable to prevent disease before it arises and to reinforce the healthy qi and secure the root；in stage B，it is advisable to avoid the spread of existing diseases and to see what is coming from one small clue；in stage C，it is advisable to control the development of existing disease and be cautious about small matters；in stage D，it is difficult to treat long-term diseases and the treatment should be based on prolonging life，so as to guide clinical practice and achieve better results.
