The incidence of osteoarthritis is closely related to the five viscera.According to the etiology and pathogenesis，the five viscera disorders can cause osteoarthritis.The deficiency of heart yang leads to thrombosis and deficient decline of the life fire；disharmony of the heart and kidney and the restrictive relationship between water and fire causing bone marrow deficiency；apraxia of function of heart governing mind and losing control of movement easily making tendons lose nourishment of qi，resulting in joint pain.Deficiency of liver-blood leads to blood not moistening the tendons；or，liver blood depletion deprives nourishment of tendons，which leads to limb weakness and even muscle weakness.Spleen controls limb muscles，so a sick spleen causes functional dysfunction of limb muscles；the dysfunction of spleen for regulating fluid makes pathogenic dampness stay in the joints，which brings about swelling；the deficiency of Yangming causes the insufficiency of meridians and makes it unable to moisten the fundamental tendon，which brings about joint instability and legs weakness；spleen controls transport and transformation，so a sick spleen can not transport fluid for stomach，which causes insufficiency of essential substances from water and cereals and numbness and ache in limbs.Lung heat hurts body fluid，and the deficiency of blood，qi，and essence as well as tendon deprived of nourishment lead to atrophic debility of bones and bone impediment.The kidney is in charge of bone as well as essence reservation，so kidney deficiency causes osteopathy，and deficiency of kidney is the main condition of osteoarthritis.
