Abstract: Director CHEN Haiyun believes that gouty arthritis is characterized by the deficiency at the root and excess at the branch. The primary pathogenesis involves the pathological factors of damp-heat,phlegm-turbidity,and blood stasis-toxins infiltrating the joints, obstructing the meridian and vessels, and causing the disease. Director CHEN Haiyun proposes a staged treatment approach for gouty arthritis, dividing it into acute and chronic remission phases. During the acute phase, the condition is often marked by turbid-stasis transforming into heat; the main treatment principles are to dissolve turbidity, remove stasis, and clear damp-heat. Commonly used herbs in this phase include Achyranthis Bidentatae Radix,Smilacis Glabrae Rhizoma,Coicis Semen,Cremastrae Pseudobulbus Pleiones Pseudobulbus,Atractylodis Rhizoma,Phellodendri Chinensis Cortex,Eupolyphaga Steleophaga, and Pheretima. In the chronic remission phase, the condition is often characterized by syndrome of spleen deficiency with excessive dampness and spleen-kidney yang deficiency. The treatment typically involves the modified Shenling Baizhu Powder.
