Abstract：Objective：To observe the preventive effect of Chinese comprehensive nursing on oral mucositis in patients undergoing radiotherapy for nasopharyngeal carcinoma. Methods：According to different interventions，a total of 140 patients undergoing radiotherapy for nasopharyngeal carcinoma(NPC) were divided into the observation group and the control group，78 and 62 cases in each group respectively. The two groups were given radical radiotherapy. The control group was additionally given oral administration of vitamin C efferent tablets， sipironium chloride gargle and compound chlorhexidine gargle；and when patients in the control group difficultly swallowed food due to pain，then lidocaine hydrochloride injection was used for gargle before eating. The observation group additionally adopted Chinese comprehensive nursing measures，including emotional nursing，diet nursing and gargle of Kangfu Xinye. The oral mucositis was examined in the two groups；pain degree was evaluated by Numerical Rating Scale(NRS)， and the health status by Karnofsky Performance Status(KPS).Results：The degree of oral mucositis in the observation group was less than that in the control group(Z=1.931，P＜0.05)，and the degree of acute radioactive salivary gland injury in the observation group was less than that in the control group (Z=1.994，P＜0.05). Oral mucositis at Grade 1，2 and 3 in the observation group occurred later than that in the control group respectively，and the pain score of the same period was lower than that in the control group，differences being significant(P＜0.05). Patients in the observation group had less pain time at NRS≥4 than those in the control group，and both the mean NRS and the highest NRS score were lower than those in the control group， differences being significant(P＜0.05). After treatment，KPS scores in both groups were decreased when compared with those before treatment(P＜0.05)，but KPS score in the observation group was higher than that in the control group(P＜0.05). Conclusion：Chinese comprehensive nursing can effectively reduce the damage degree of oral mucosa and salivary glands caused by radiotherapy for NPC， decrease the degree of pain，delay the occurrence of oral mucositis，and maintain the quality of life of patients，which is worthy of clinical application.
