Abstract:Objective:To observe the clinical effect of Bushen Yiqi Huayu prescription for senile osteoporosis(OP) and its effect on bone metabolism. Methods:A total of 88 cases of senile OP patients were randomly divided into the control group and the combination group,44 cases in each group. The control group was treated with alfacalcidol, and the combination group was additionally treated with Bushen Yiqi Huayu prescription based on the treatment of the control group. Chinese medicine syndrome scores, bone density values, levels of serum markers of bone metabolism including bone alkaline phosphatase(BALP), calcitonin(CT) and tartrate- resistant acid phosphatase isomer 5b(TRACP- 5b), and the total clinical effect in the two groups were observed and compared. Results: The total effective rate was 95.45% in the combination group and 65.91% in the control group, the difference being significant(P<0.05). The scores of Chinese medicine syndromes including low back pain, soreness in the waist and knees, and mental and physical lassitude in the two groupswere all decreased when compared with those before treatment(P<0.05); the scores in the combination group were significantly lower than those in the control group(P<0.05). After treatment, the bone mineral density of lumbar L2~4 and hip in the two groups was significantly increased when compared with that before treatment(P<0.05), and the index in the combination group was higher than that in the control group(P<0.05). After treatment, the levels of BALP and TRACP- 5b in the two groups were decreased when compared with those before treatment(P<0.05), and the CT level was increased(P<0.05); the improvement of bone metabolic markers in the combination group was more significant than that in the control group(P< 0.05). Conclusion: The therapy of Bushen Yiqi Huayu prescription combined with alfacalcidol for OP can effectively relieve symptoms, increase bone mineral density, and promote bone metabolism, so as to better protect the bone and joint system of senile patients.
